Mr. Aaviksoo offers condolences to Latvian Minister of Defence

The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jaak Aaviksoo, called his Latvian colleague, Mr. Vinets Veldre, today to offer his condolences on the death yesterday of a soldier of the Latvian Armed Forces in Afghanistan.

One soldier of the Latvian Armed Forces was killed and three were wounded in the Maymaneh province of Afghanistan. This morning, Mr. Aaviksoo offered his deepest condolences in a telephone call to his Latvian colleague, Mr. Vinets Veldre, and extended the condolences to the next-of-kin of the deceased. Mr. Aaviksoo also wished a speedy recovery to the wounded soldiers.

 

A noon bomb explosion yesterday killed Edgars Ozoliņš, a Corporal of the Latvian Armed Forces; the other three soldiers were not seriously injured. Corporal Edgars Ozoliņš is Latvia’s first casualty in the operation in Afghanistan.
