Estonia´s Defence Minister appoints new Commanders for Air Force and Special Forces

Minister of Defence of Estonia, Jüri Luik has signed directives appointing Colonel Rauno Sirk as the new Commander of the Estonian Air Force and Lieutenant Colonel Margus Kuul as the new Commander of the Estonian Special Forces.

Colonel Rauno Sirk has spent the last three years as the Director of the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI). He has previously served as the Commander of Ämari Air Base, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and Estonia's military representative to NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

Sirk is a graduate of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and the United States Air Force Air War College; in addition, he has improved himself by completing various Air Force and management related courses.

Lieutenant Colonel Margus Kuul has served as the Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces Special Operations Force, Commander of the Special Operations Task Group, and served in Iraq as Commander of the Estonian light infantry platoon ESTPLA 12.

Kuul is a graduate of the main course at the Estonian National Defence College and the United States Naval War College, with a specialty in special operations and irregular warfare. In addition, he has improved himself through various specialised courses in the fields of unconventional warfare, intelligence operations and special operations.

The ceremonies, where Col Riivo Valge, the current Commander of the Air Force, will transfer command to Colonel Rauno Sirk, and Col Riho Ühtegi, current Commander of the Special Force will transfer command to Lieutenant Colonel Margus Kuul, are scheduled to take place later this week.

Colonel Valge will become the Head of Administration at the Estonian Defence Academy, Colonel Ühtegi, will continue as the Commander of Estonian Defence League.
