Minister of Defence Jüri Luik met yesterday with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and visited the temporary borderline near Russian occupied South Ossetia.
At their meeting, Minister of Defence Luik and Prime Minister Kvirikashvili discussed the international security situation and the state of affairs in the Russian occupied Georgian territories. They also discussed Georgia’s defence and economic reforms and Euro-Atlantic relations.
‘Over the past few years, Georgia has carried out a significant number of reforms and moved closer to the European Union as well as NATO’ said Minister of Defence Luik at his meeting with Prime Minister Kvirikashvili, as he acknowledged the successful steps taken by Georgia. When carrying out its reforms Georgia has also relied on the example of Estonia, for example, in the case of income tax reform.

Luik confirmed Estonia’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity to Prime Minister Kvirikashvili. ‘The situation in the occupied territories is worrying, since continuous human rights violations are being committed against the Georgians that remain in the region.
