Minister of Defence Hannes Hanso thanked the instructors of the Special Operations Task Unit of the Estonian Defence Forces, who trained special operations forces in Ukraine, and presented them with letters of appreciation.
“Estonian military support for Ukraine takes the form of Estonian special operations forces,” said Minister of Defence Hanso. “The contributions made by Estonian special operations forces are very important militarily and contribute to Estonia’s security policy objectives of providing comprehensive support to Ukraine. Special operations forces, as a strategic capability, have a clear role to play and are an expression of the implementation of Estonia’s security and defence policy.”
During the August visit by Minister of Defence Hanso to Ukraine, Ukrainian Minister of Defence General Stepan Potorak thanked Estonia for its support and the training provided by special operations forces and noted the high level of professionalism demonstrated by Estonia's special operations forces.
ESTSOF has been contributing in Ukraine since November 2015, in the framework of the U.S. led training project JMTG-U (Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine). Estonian special operations forces, in cooperation with U.S. special operations forces, are providing training to a regiment of Ukrainian special operations forces, who are participating in combat as part of the anti-terrorist operations in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.
