Tbilisi, 26 May 2016 - Minister of Defence Hannes Hanso spoke with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in Tbilisi about the security situation in the Black Sea region.

“Georgians themselves must make their own decisions regarding Georgia’s choices for the future. No one should have any power of veto over the free and democratic decisions of your country, including Russia,” said Minister of Defence Hanso. “It is very important that the Russian annexation of South-Ossetia and Abkhazia does not become a roadblock to Georgia’s negotiations with NATO. It would only serve to encourage the Putin regime to continue its aggressive policies."

Hanso confirmed to the President of Georgia that Estonia continues to support Georgia’s efforts to join NATO.

Also present at the meeting were Minister of Defence of Georgia Tinatin Khidasheli and Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze.
