Minister of Defence Jüri Luik, who met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, emphasised that NATO’s presence in Estonia is quite strong, but can be complemented further.

'As the host country, Estonia is thankful to our NATO Allies for the deployment of the battalion combat group to protect our security. The arrival of the combat group is only the beginning of the work that lies ahead of us', said Luik.

Minister of Defence Jüri Luik and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also discussed the priorities for the upcoming Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the opportunities for close EU and NATO cooperation, including in the field of cyber defence.

They also touched on Baltic Sea region security questions, including positions on the upcoming large-scale Russian Federation military training exercise Zapad 2017.
