Minister of Defence Jüri Luik met today with his Danish counterpart, Claus Hjort Frederiksen, to discuss questions relating to the forthcoming NATO summit and to thank Denmark for its contribution to NATO’s battlegroup and Air Policing missions.

Yesterday, Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, along with the Estonian and Danish Ministers of Defence, visited the 1st Infantry Brigade, stationed at Tapa, where they received an overview of the Allied battlegroup’s activities and met with the Danish Defence soldiers who have begun serving at Tapa.

The company-sized Danish unit replaced the French Armed Forces contingent that had been stationed at Tapa. The armaments of the mechanised infantry company include the infantry combat vehicle CV90.

Denmark and Estonia are bound by long-standing defence related cooperation. Denmark has supported the development and training of Estonia’s infantry brigade for many years, while Estonian servicemen participated in the peacekeeping operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of the Danish contingent.

At present, Estonian and Danish instructors are training Iraqi security forces together. In 2014, the Danes were the first to arrive at Ämari to secure Baltic airspace.
