PRESS RELEASE nr. 57 Estonian and Belgian Minister of Defence to sign Bilateral Co-operation Agreement

Today the Estonian Minister of Defence Sven Mikser and the Belgian Minister of Defence Andre` Flahaut signed the bilateral co-operation agreement in Tallinn which will set basis for further closer contacts between the two countries.

During the press-conference Mikser stressed that the agreement would create premise for further defence co-operation between Estonia and Belgium. Mr. Flahaut added that the treaty signed today would be a firm guarantee of the continuous and more concrete co-operation between the countries.

The Belgian Minister of Defence assured that his visit to Estonia gives evidence of Belgium’s interest to develop military-defence relations with Estonia.

“Belgium is for the enlargement of both, NATO and EU, because these two organisations guarantee the balance in the world,” he said during the press-conference “The one who speaks about balance, speaks about peace. And the one who speaks about peace, speaks about the flourishing of economy”.

During the meeting prior to the press-conference the Defence Ministers of the two countries discussed NATO enlargement, Estonia’s preparations and input into the Alliance.

The Belgian Minister of Defence Andre` Flahaut will continue his visit in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
