The Ministry of Defence has recognised 517 Estonian companies and organizations with the „Armed Forces Supporter“ award for their contribution to supporting Estonia's national defense and reservists. These organizations support national defence by maintaining the income of reservists during training exercises and by providing additional support in various ways.

Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated during the award ceremony that national security is a shared responsibility. “Even the strongest force on the frontline needs its support in the rear. As Prime Minister, I am pleased to see that our business sector and employers understand their role in national defence. The willingness and ability of reservists to participate in exercises depends greatly on whether employers retain their salaries during this time or offer flexible work arrangements. This kind of support gives reservists the confidence to participate in training, knowing their families are cared for and their jobs are secure,” said Prime Minister Kristen Michal at the recognition event.

Our security is built on our people and our reservists. Therefore, it is crucial that our reservists in turn feel supported. That they can participate on training exercises with peace of mind, without worrying that their financial situation would deteriorate while they contribute to national defence. I am therefore very pleased that this year, over half a thousand employers received recognition for their support to national defence, said Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Kaimo Kuusk.

According to the law, employers must allow reservists working in their companies to attend training gatherings, but maintaining their income is at the discretion of the companies and organizations.

National defence only works if all parts of society contribute to it. Employers who enable reservists to attend training and support them with additional measures play a vital role in this system,” said Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Major General Andrus Merilo.“ The contribution of employers who retain the salaries of reservists enhances the country’s defence capability and operational readiness, as it increases the motivation of reservists to participate. The more reservists take part in training, the stronger Estonia’s independent defence capability becomes.”

In total, more than 600 candidates were submitted for recognition this year, several of them repeatedly. In 2025, 517 employers received the recognition: 3 received special honours, 10 gold-level awards, 100 silver-level awards and 404 bronze-level awards.

Bronze-level awards were given to employers who maintained the salaries of their reservists. Silver, gold, and special honours were granted to employers who, in addition to retaining salaries, offered other benefits or support measures to reservists.

The recipients were selected by a jury comprising representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Estonian Defense Forces, and the Estonian Defense League.
