The Defence Minister, Mr. Jürgen Ligi, has offered his condolences on behalf of the Estonian Government to his Latvian counterpart, Mr. Atis Slakteris, following the deaths of two Latvian servicemen in Iraq.
Mr. Ligi said that the, “international peace support operations have proved to be an efficient means of ensuring stability and security in a region which needs international assistance and support”.
He continued by saying that, “Estonia has lost two excellent soldiers in the operation in Iraq. What happened to our neighbour and ally today is not unfamiliar to us; therefore, we can fully sympathise with them during this time of national mourning”.
The Government of the Republic of Estonia expressed its sincere condolences to the Latvian families of the two servicemen.
