On Thursday, the Estonian government supported Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur's proposal to send another field hospital to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this time in collaboration with Iceland. Additionally, the Estonian aid package includes equipment for paramedics, deminers, and counter-drone capabilities.
"Assisting Ukraine during the counteroffensive is now more important than ever, especially in terms of medical aid. We are sending the fourth field hospital to Ukraine, this time in cooperation with Iceland," said Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur.
The field hospital will be donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Estonian Defence Forces' stock, and its replenishment will be fully funded by Iceland at a cost of 7.8 million euros.
"In addition to the hospital, this fresh aid package to the Armed Forces of Ukraine includes medical equipment for paramedics, demining, and counter-drone equipment," added the Estonian defence minister.
To date, Estonia has provided Ukraine with military aid totaling around 400 million euros, which is more than 1% of Estonia's GDP. Donations have included missiles for the Javelin anti-tank missile system, howitzers, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, vehicles, communication equipment, medical supplies, personal protective equipment (helmets, etc.), and dry food packages.
In April, Estonia decided to send Ukraine artillery ammunition it urgently needs as part of the European Union agreement to provide Ukraine with one million rounds of artillery ammunition.
In cooperation with Germany, Estonia has provided Ukraine with two field hospitals and medical supplies worth 15 million euros. Estonia has also provided a third field hospital to Ukraine in cooperation with the Netherlands and Norway, who supported the project with 7.8 million euros.
