Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur participated in a 24-nation meeting in Copenhagen with Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksi Reznikov, co-chaired by Denmark and the UK, to discuss the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine.

“This war has now reached a turning point. Military assistance has helped Ukraine to defend itself against Russian aggression. However, to win the war, Ukraine will continue to need our support,” said Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur.

“Estonia’s assistance to Ukraine has been significant, but we must not tire, and I therefore appreciate the initiative of the Allies to bring together the various contributors and find ways in which we can further support Ukraine by increasing the training provided to it and the production of European arms industries,” the Minister of Defence added.

Estonia has provided Ukraine with nearly EUR 245 million worth of military assistance, including Javelin anti-tank missile systems, howitzers, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars and other equipment.

In cooperation with Germany, Estonia donated a field hospital and medical supplies worth nearly EUR 10 million to Ukraine.

“In the near future, we want to come up with a comprehensive package of military support for Ukraine within the Government of the Republic. We must not forget that decisions to support Ukraine today also strengthen our security and take away Russia’s power to act unpredictably in our region,” added Pevkur.

At the meeting, the defence ministers also discussed Russia’s activities and the changed security situation.

Minister of Defence Pevkur also met separately with the defence ministers of Ukraine, Sweden and the UK to discuss bilateral defence cooperation.
