Minister of Defence Luik is on an official visit to Finland.
Minister of Defence Luik met yesterday, in Helsinki, with Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen to discuss regional security and bilateral cooperation. The Minister of Defence also laid wreaths at the Cross of Heroes, in Hietaniemi Cemetery, and the Monument to the Finnish Boys and Marshal Mannerheim.
‘I am pleased that once again, over a long period of time, it is possible to meet in person with our good friends from Finland. Yesterday, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Estonia and Finland; and today, the first visit to Finland after the end of the state of emergency is taking place,’ said Minister of Defence Luik, yesterday.
At yesterday’s meeting, the Ministers of Defence discussed the regional security picture and stated that, despite the spread of the virus, Russia has not changed its activities in the international arena and the security threats in our region have not disappeared.
‘Due to the fact that the security threats in our region have not changed, we cannot make concessions in the development of our defence capabilities,’ said Luik.
Today, Minister of Defence Luik is scheduled to meet with the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces and to visit Finland’s Emergency Response Centre Agency, which is one of the models for the planned emergency response centre agency in Estonia.
