Meeting with the Ambassador Designate of the U.S. George P. Kent, Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur discussed bilateral defence cooperation, strengthening the defence of NATO’s eastern flank and continuous military aid to Ukraine.
“The U.S. is a key Ally for Estonia, one that has been a strong leader in defence both in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank, as well as coordinating military aid to Ukraine. The U.S. multiple rocket launcher HIMARS unit and the accompanying training for our future HIMARS unit is a significant contribution towards our security,” said Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur.
“In addition, direct financial aid from the U.S. has allowed us to strengthen our self-defence faster than initially planned, as well as reach national defence development goals faster. Of course, I am also very glad that the U.S. diplomatic representation in Estonia is once again at an ambassadorial level,” said minister Pevkur.
Ambassador Designate George P. Kent is a long-serving diplomat, who has previously served in Uzbekistan, Poland, and twice in Thailand and Ukraine.
