The contract was signed by the Defence Minister, Mr. Jürgen Ligi, and the CEO of AS Eesti Ehitus (Estonian Construction plc), Mr. Jaano Vink. AS Linnaehitus, a subsidiary of AS Eesti Ehitus, submitted the most suitable tender for the international public procurement entitled “Second phase design and construction works of the Infantry Training Centre for the Kuperjanov Single Infantry Battalion”.
This procurement includes the reconstruction of the second and third barracks and the hostel, as well as the construction of a new infirmary, study building and soldiers’ residence. In addition, roads and parking facilities will be constructed around the buildings.
This complex will be completed by spring 2008.
At first, the third barracks will be constructed, after which building will commence on the second barracks. According to the plans, the third barracks will be completed by September 2007, the hostel by the end of December 2007, the infirmary and soldiers’ residence by the end of January 2008, and the second barracks and the study building by the end of March 2008. After reconstruction, both barracks will include 200 beds and rooms for 39 service personnel.
Background:
The first construction phase of the Infantry Training Centre for the Kuperjanov Single Infantry Battalion included the construction of the external networks of the unit (water, sewage, heating, electricity), which was also won by AS Eesti Ehitus. The cost of the construction works was 26.67 million EEK and the works were completed on 30th September 2005. Skanska EMV plc won the public procurement for the construction of the fourth barracks, staff building, and a repair shop for the unit, which were completed on 4th August 2005 within the framework of a different public procurement for phase one of the construction. These construction works cost 57.26 million EEK.
