On November 6th the fifth State Defence Courses for school directors and educational officials will start in Tallinn. The seminar will be conducted by the Military Education and Information Section of the Ministry of Defence. The courses will concentrate on the fundamentals and goals of the Estonian national defence education at school leaders’ level.
The aim of the three-day-seminar is to acquaint the participants with our defence policy, national defence system and administration; with the work of national defence departments; Defence League; patriotism and patriotic education; youth organizations’ role in the shaping of the youth and the role of Ministry of Defence in the national defence education. Detailed overview will be given on the conscript issues and the national defence education at secondary schools. The Minister of Defence Sven Mikser will hold the opening lecture “The short- and long-term goals of the Estonian defence policy”.
In addition to lectures and discussions the participants of the seminar will visit the Single Guard Battalion where they can get acquainted with the conscript’s everyday life and living conditions. Those interested can try test imitators at the shooting range and enjoy a conscript meal.
There will be 32 participants from the schools of Tartu, Valga, Viljandi, Põlva and Võru region.
The former participants gave a very positive feedback on the courses. The education officials are of the opinion that the national defence education at schools is a necessary discipline to prepare our youth for the conscript period and to develop their patriotic values.
