PRESS RELEASE no 109 Estonian Minister of Defence met with high US official

Today, on December 6 the Minister of Defence met with the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff General Peter Pace who, after the meeting of the Chiefs of Defence in Brussels, is paying an acquaintance visit to future allies.

Today, on December 6 the Minister of Defence met with  the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff General Peter Pace who, after the meeting of the Chiefs of Defence in Brussels, is paying an acquaintance visit to future allies. 

 

The discussion focused on two main topics – Estonia’s short- and long-term plans and Estonia’s input into NATO after becoming the member of the Alliance.

 

General Pace congratulated Estonia on getting the invitation to join NATO and stressed that in collective defence the share of each ally – even that of the smallest – would be of crucial importance. General Pace said that it was relevant to develop special capabilities which would help to combat with contemporary dangers, especially terrorism.

 

Defence Minister Mikser thanked General Pace for America’s support to Estonia regarding the joining process with NATO and assured that Estonia would continue to reform and modernize its defence forces with the aim of being a reliable and capable ally.

 

General Peter Pace who arrived in Estonia after visiting Latvia will leave Tallinn tomorrow afternoon.
