Press Release no 2 Estonian Minister of Defence to meet Under Secretary of State of UK and Northern Ireland Ivor Caplin

On January 11, 2005 the Estonian Minister of Defence Jaak Jõerüüt met with the Under Secretary of State of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (UK) Mr Ivor Caplin. The aim of the meeting was to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation.

On January 11, 2005 the Estonian Minister of Defence Jaak Jõerüüt met with the Under Secretary of State of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (UK) Mr Ivor Caplin. The aim of the meeting was to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation.

 

Jõerüüt thanked UK for the continuous co-operation and stressed the importance of help UK has given concerning the Baltic air-surveillance. Estonia also appreciates the know-how concerning national defence UK has been providing.

 

During the meeting with the Secretary General Lauri Almann the topics of Baltic air-surveillance and international peace operations were discussed. Caplan said it was important to continue the operation in Iraq until the stabilization of the country.

 

During the two-day visit the Under Secretary of State of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (UK) Mr Ivor Caplin will visit the General Staff and Single Signal Battalion. Tomorrow Caplin will lay a wreath in memory of the British soldiers at the Defence Forces cemetary.

Caplin will leave Estonia tomorrow to continue his visit in Lithuania.
