PRESS RELEASE no 77 Defence Minister Margus Hanson to participate in NATO Defence Ministers’ informal meeting

The Minister of Defence Margus Hanson headed today for Colorado Springs, USA to participate in the NATO and the 7 invited countries Ministers’ of Defence informal meeting between October 8-9, 2003.

The Minister of Defence Margus Hanson headed today for Colorado Springs, USA to participate in the NATO and the 7 invited countries Ministers’ of Defence informal meeting between October 8-9, 2003.

In addition to Hanson the Chief of Staff vice-admiral Tarmo Kõuts will participate in the meeting.

 

The main topic of the meeting is to review the Alliance’s transformation in the context of the future security environment, particularly accentuating the implementation of the new NATO Response Force, new military command structure  and efforts to improve capabilities. One important key theme at the meeting is the need to increase the deployability and usability of NATO’s forces if the Alliance is to meet future threats and mission demands.

 

The informal meeting will not take any official decisions. The main objective of the meeting is to give the future and already active members of the Alliance to discuss world’s security issues and the present state of fight against terrorism.
