PRESS RELEASE no 81 Estonia and Germany to discuss defence co-operation

The delegations of the Estonian and German Ministries of Defence will meet today in Berlin to analyze this year’s and to discuss next year’s mutual defence co-operation plan.

The delegations of the Estonian and German Ministries of Defence will meet today in Berlin to analyze this year’s and to discuss next year’s mutual defence co-operation plan.

Delegations will sign the plan for 2003 including 70 different undertakings covering general expert negotiations, training projects as well as logistics co-operation. This year’s plan consisted of nearly 60 enterprises, considerable number of which were different language- and military training projects.

Delegations will also discuss co-operation in conjunction with MAP planning process. Estonian defence co-operation with Germany comprises ten ANP mid-term goals, the most important of which are data communication, equipment, naval co-operation and BATCCIS (Baltic Command-Control Information System).

The talks will also tackle NATO enlargement process and the Prague summit meeting this November. Estonia is hoping  on the continuous support of Germany after the summit meeting and the enlargement process.
