On June 1-2 the delegations of the Estonian and German Ministry of Defence are holding Defence Staff Talks in Berlin.
In addition to bilateral and Baltic cooperation the sides will tackle topics concerning NATO, international security, ESDP and international terrorism. One of the most vital questions for Estonia is the Baltic Air Policing issue where permanent solutions are looked for.
The sides will also discuss Estonian Defence Forces Reform where Germany can share its experience and advise on further developments in that area.
The wide spectrum of defence cooperation between the two countries covers logistics, communication, navy, environmental protection as well as armament, medicine, defence planning and training. The cooperation plans for the next 2-3 years will largely concentrate on armament and corresponding training.
The first political-military negotiations between Estonia and Germany took place in 1995 and they have on the rotational basis been conducted in Tallinn and Berlin. The latest negotiations took place in 2003 in Tallinn.
