Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence Kristjan Prikk recognised servicemen who have participated in international military operations, and presented 87 mission medals for laudable work in defence of the Republic of Estonia.

The Secretary General emphasised that Estonia has participated in various military operations for a quarter of a century, and the professional and skilful work of the servicemen representing Estonia has helped to establish and strengthen allied relations during this time.

‘Good service is the calling card of the Republic of Estonia. Estonia’s allies and partner countries in NATO and the European Union greatly appreciate the professionalism of the Estonian Defence Forces’, said Prikk.

‘The practical experiences and secured political credibility gained by participating side by side with our allies in operations is invaluable for the defence of the Estonian state’, said Prikk.

‘Today, the British, Danes, French and Americans are participating in ensuring our security in Estonia – a brotherhood in arms in mission areas is what unites us with all these countries’.

Operation Barkhane, in Mali, has been particularly visible this year. Prikk noted that our contribution to the task force in Takuba has served to strengthen our bilateral relations with France. ‘French units are also currently present at Ämari, to help enhance deterrence in our region’, said Prikk.

The medal for participation in an international military operation was awarded to servicemen who participated in the missions to Mali, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon and Italy.
