The program covers topics related to the Kodutütred (Home Daughters) and Noored Kotkad (Young Eagles) education levels, such as: national defense education, Estonian history and culture, first aid, orienteering and hiking, survival in the forest, environmental education, and other essential life skills. Thanks to the open organisation of patriotic camps, the connection between the Defence League’s youth organisations, Noored Kotkad and Kodutütred, and society has increased, and they are valued as providers of extracurricular education on national defense.
Opportunities
The program encourages opening new groups and motivates the activities of existing ones. It provides financial support for group activities to applicants in order to offer more adventurous and diverse experiences and support their training.
- Groups have been given the opportunity to organise diverse forest and team-building camps, where they learn the requirements set out in the educational curricula to increase the youth's level of skills and knowledge.
- Regular gatherings have been transformed into training days, involving external trainers and experts from various organisations. For example, a basic first aid course has become intensive first aid training, conducted by doctors and paramedics.
- Young people are visiting more museums that support Estonian history and culture education. Popular places include: the Estonian National Museum, the Open Air Museum, the Seaplane Harbour Museum, the Police Museum, the Wittenstein Time Center, the Estonian War Museum – General Laidoner Museum, and the Valga Military Park.
Program and youth leaders
Thanks to the youth patriotic education program, volunteer youth leaders are given training opportunities outside the organisation. Organising training is important for fostering a unified team spirit and standardising knowledge. Additionally, a scholarship program has been established to support outstanding youth leaders.
Camp Spekter
Spekter is a nationwide summer camp for Kodutütred and Noored Kotkad, which invites youth from various organisations, institutions, and countries. In the camp, participants acquire various skills and knowledge about the Kodutütred and Noored Kotkad organisations and their connection to national defense in a broader context. Young people can participate in educational activities, nature walks, excursions, and test their teamwork skills during a sports day. The goal of the large camp is to organise an open camp for basic school-age youth. Through active participation, the activities of the Defence League’s youth organisations are introduced to hundreds of external participants, promoting patriotic values and an active lifestyle among young people.
Summer, friends, adventure – that’s SPEKTER!
