Tuuli Duneton, Undersecretary for Defence Policy, and Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, U.S. Department of Defense, signed a bilateral Security Cooperation Plan for 2024–2028 in Washington, D.C.
“As confirmation of Estonia’s strong alliance with the United States, we renewed the Defence Cooperation Agreement, which focuses on the military presence of the United States in Estonia, its contribution to the development of the Estonian Division, cyber defence cooperation, and joint procurements of capability upgrades by the Baltic States,” said Undersecretary for Defence Policy Tuuli Duneton.
The agreement also covers cooperation during training exercises, the development of necessary infrastructure to host allied units and a number of other areas of common interest.
“In the agreement, we also reaffirmed our support for Ukraine until Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are restored. With this goal in mind, we will continue to work with the U.S. Department of Defense to train, equip, advise, and assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” added Undersecretary for Defence Policy Duneton.
Cooperation between Estonia and the United States strengthens Estonia’s independent defence, the defence posture of the Baltic Sea region, and NATO’s allied relations.
The first defence cooperation agreement between Estonia and the United States was signed in 2019. A similar bilateral cooperation plan was signed by the United States with Latvia and Lithuania.
