Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence, and Gideon Sa'ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, who visited Estonia, discussed opportunities for expanding defence cooperation between the two countries at a meeting today.

“Israel, like Estonia, is a country with a small population and territory. Over the decades, Israel has managed to build up a very strong defence force based on reservist service with a highly capable defence industry. Estonia has much to learn from Israel and much to share to enhance the defence capabilities of both countries,” said Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur.

Israel is already an important partner for Estonia in the field of defence. “We have purchased important weapon systems from Israel, including machine guns, anti-ship and anti-tank missiles, and air munitions. In addition, we see numerous new opportunities for cooperation between Estonian and Israeli defence industry companies, thereby also increasing the defence capabilities of Estonia,” added the Minister of Defence.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Gideon Sa'ar will also meet with Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna, as well as with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu and the Estonia-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group. During his visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel will also open the Embassy of Israel in Estonia.
